Event Journey – Event Planning Mobile App (UX/UI)
What is the problem?
Lots of people get stressed when planning an event.
There are lots of things to organise, chasing people for RSVP's and finding out important information from guests.
The app will help take out all the stress, to create a great event.
Business needs
The goal is to make the process of planning an event easy.
Using event journey will allow anyone who is planning an event (birthday, wedding, baby shower etc.) to be able to enter all their details into their mobile app and send out invites via their phone contacts/emails/social media and get RSVP's from guests.
Also getting notifications on tasks when they are due. Keeping on track of the budget and which suppliers have been paid or need to be paid.
Understanding and research of user's needs
I've completed research into the problem collecting quantitative and qualitative data from survey's, competitive analysis and interviews to make an affinity map. Using these insights to create empathy maps, persona's and a customer journey of customer’s.
Affinity Map
Collecting all the data from interviews, survey’s and competitive analysis.
Insights from research
12 days was the average number of days to organise an event. Found that no participants had used an event app before to plan an event.
Data in charts
100% of participants interviewed wanted reminders.
85% of participants used their mobile phone most often.

Testing and feedback
First paper prototype
I received valuable feedback from participants in user testing of the low-fidelity paper prototypes.
Wireframe prototype
Created a high fidelity wireframe prototype in Adobe XD and carrying out user testing.
Measurable usability goals
Users were able to locate sections in the app quickly and easily, when I asked them to find them.
Iterated on ideas over time
The original idea was to create a birthday party planning app. After one-on-one interviews, online surveys and competitive analysis, it made more sense to make a generic event planning app for all types of events. To have a wider audience of potential customers.
After doing all the research and finding that most people spent the majority of their time on their mobile phones. I decided it was best to create a mobile app.
Collecting all the research was valuable in figuring out what people wanted in an event planning app. Also people's frustrations and stresses when they plan an event. I found it made the whole process of what to include in the final mobile app quite easy from all the research I collected.
User testing on my original paper prototype, made me see a few things that needed to change to help me improve the app, so I took participants suggestions on board. Such as not liking the bottom menu bar. Making me change to a hamburger button and drop down navigation menu. Which in later user testing showed user's were able to navigate and find sections quicker and easier.
Testing the wireframe prototype on participants was really helpful in seeing how they would interact with the app. Making a few tweaks that would make using the app easier for the user. Two of the participants wanted a forward and backwards button on each section. So I added arrows to the final interface and in final user testing, participants liked it.
All this research, planning and wireframing and prototyping. Lead me to this final design solution.
